The Daily: No Q to NY; Blackhawks Prospects Wait Another Day

Published

on

In a shocking move Saturday afternoon, the New York Rangers and head coach Gerard Gallant agreed to mutually part ways. Such news only ramps up the rumor mill in speculating that former Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville could be a target.

Gallant was 95-46-19 in the regular season with the Rangers but the seven-game loss to the New Jersey Devils in the first round certainly clouded things. Gallant was pestered about his job security during locker cleanout. Now, the Big Apple looks for a new bench boss.

But it won’t be Joel Quenneville. The New York Post’s Larry Brooks writes that general manager Chris Drury will not be looking Coach Q’s way.

Any Chicago fan will tell you of Quenneville’s place in guiding Chicago to three Stanley Cups. Many of those same Blackhawks fans, if not all of them, will tell you of their disgust of his place in the Kyle Beach incident. Ultimately, commissioner Gary Bettman has the final say should any team want to bring him into the fold.

But it won’t be for the New York Rangers.

Blackhawks Prospects Fail to Clinch in Seattle

The Seattle Thunderbirds opened the scoring, but closed the game on the wrong side of the scoresheet. Kamloops stayed alive in the conference final series with a 4-2 victory. It was an uncharacteristically quiet game for Blackhawks prospects Kevin Korchinski, Colton Dach, and Nolan Allen. The Thunderbirds will have another crack at clinching on Monday.
