Published

on

The Chicago Blackhawks are adding onto its practice facility downtown. According to an article from Block Club Chicago, the $65 million expansion will tack on another 135,000 square feet to the Fifth-Third Arena. Rush University Medical Center sold the land to the Blackhawks for $23.5 million which was approved by Chicago’s City Council in April.

$6.3M of the deal is earmarked for the development of the Sankofa Wellness Village, which is a development project in Garfield Park. The arena expansion will included two additional rinks that will be for the Blackhawks and club teams.

Rocco Grimaldi’s Goal Gives US a Cushion, But Still Fall to Germany

The Rockford IceHogs’ Rocco Grimaldi ripped a shot in the United States’ semi-final matchup with Germany on Saturday.

Grimaldi also assisted on the first goal, but the United States coughed up the two-goal lead and actually held a 3-2 advantage but Germany knotted it up with 1:27 left in the game. The Germans would win in overtime, sending the US to the bronze medal game against Latvia, which it would also lose.

Dallas Buries Two in the Third to Beat Vegas

Vegas had the lead, and then Dallas scored three unanswered to stay alive. Jason Robertson kept his head-turning play alive, tying the game at two. The series goes back to Dallas on Monday with Vegas still leading the series 3-2. Vegas Hockey Now’s Dan Kingerski writes that the Golden Knights are in quite the precarious position right now.

Blackhawks In Case You Missed It:

  • Petr Mrazek did his job holding up a rebuilding team as much as he could.  Helps that taking his contract notched a first and second round pick for the Blackhawks, too.
  • Nolan Allan and Kevin Korchinski factored into Seattle’s 6-3 win in the Memorial Cup. When two of the trio get on the scoresheet, Seattle is now 10-0 in postseason play.
  • The final rebuild report tracking how the Blackhawks got to this point. The chance to draft Connor Bedard gives Chicago hope it hasn’t had in some time.
