The Daily: Forsling an Unsung Hero; Manager Merry Go Round

Published

on

Remember when Gustav Forsling wasn’t the player everyone in Chicago thought he would. Turns out he just needed to take his talents to South Beach.

Florida Hockey Now’s George Richards explains that the Panthers’ unlikely run to the Stanley Cup Final has been in large part to his contributions.  Steady on the back end for Florida, Richards writes that Florida taking a flier on him was the best thing that could have happened for Forsling. When Carolina waived him he wasn’t sure he’d play again.

Now Forsling is playing for the Stanley Cup.

Manager Merry Go Round Continues to Spin

One former general manager shows up in Toronto. The recently fired former GM dragging it out with Pittsburgh? Both Brad Treliving and Kyle Dubas are trending and while the former heads to where Dubas couldn’t get Toronto out of the second round.

Toronto’s answer, then, is to acquire the guy who traded current playoff dynamo Matthew Tkachuk to Florida, and then watched Johnny Geaudreau go to Columbus. Calgary Hockey Now’s Craig Ellingson writes that the trade was still a good one.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh Hockey Now’s Dave Molinari wonders why the Penguins ownership hasn’t given a tighter deadline for Dubas to make his mind. Dubas, he writes, certainly has appeal but certainly seems to vetting the Fenway Group more than they are him. Maybe he’s even using it to make his way to Ottawa.

Whatever it is, the longer the Penguins go without a general manager, the longer limbo stretches and it’s not good for their future.
