The Daily: Dubas Done Deal in Pittsburgh; T-Birds in Semis Tonight

Published

on

There’s a new home for Kyle Dubas after all. Taking the expected gig in Pittsburgh, Dubas will be the new president of hockey operations and interim general manager. He’ll also be gunning to keep that contention window open while building around the core already in place.

Dubas seems okay with it, though recent history teaches that the odds are against them. Heck, Kyle Davidson could show him a thing or two as to why starting a rebuild now may be in his best interest.

Then again, if Pittsburgh roars back to life, Dubas finally gets the reward he never got in Toronto. But Pittsburgh Hockey Now’s Dan Kingerski writes that hiring Dubas is the right move on several accounts.

Thunderbirds To Face Peterborough in Memorial Cup Semifinal

Peterborough’s overtime victory over Kamloops provides a semi-final rematch with Seattle tonight. The Thunderbirds defeated the Peters once already, and responded with a 6-1 thrashing of Kamloops Wednesday night. Playing back-to-back, Peterborough will have its hands full.

A win would put Seattle in the title game Sunday against Quebec, who handed the T-Birds their only loss of the Memorial Cup so far.

Blackhawks In Case You Missed It

  • Jason Dickinson had a career year for Chicago. Here’s a look at what could be next with a year remaining on his contract
  • Kyle Dubas may find things don’t work out as he hopes. He can look at Kyle Davidson’s plan to rebuild and maybe get some luck, too
  • Patrick Kane’s hip resurfacing will keep him out 4-6 months. But he expects to be back for several more years. The Blackhawks also did better on the trade than it initially appeared.
  • Don’t give up on Ian Mitchell just yet. There’s quite the comparable to guide that patience.
