Scouting the Opponent & Miscellaneous Musings

There will be a lot of nostalgia flowing in the United Center when the Blackhawks finally take the ice. From Chris Chelios having his iconic number seven head to the rafters to Patrick Kane returning to the United Center for the first time since he was traded last year, there’s going to be a lot more noise and a thirstier desire for victory because of everything preceding the game.

Oh yes–it’s the arch rival Detroit Red Wings in town, too.

It’s rare this season that the 15-win Blackhawks have been in situations with high stakes. After all, everyone know it’s a rebuild and just having Connor Bedard in the fold has made it tolerable for a team that has seen just one winning streak all season long.

But in an atmosphere that will likely even put the National Anthem cheers at a more playoff like fever pitch, this an opportunity for the young Hawks to get as close to a playoff atmosphere as they’ve had all season long. Likely, dating back to the opening night contest against the Pittsburgh Penguins on national television.

So for the fans reveling in the nostalgia, keep the Kleenex box close. The extra energy should make for an exciting atmosphere where a certain chant is louder than usual, and maybe, just maybe, that extra electricity can jolt the Hawks out of their losing streak.
