2 Quick Thoughts Following the Blackhawks 7th Straight Loss

Published

on

It was more of the same for the Chicago Blackhawks Monday night against the Colorado Avalanche. Another loss in the streak–now at seven. Consecutive road loss number 22. And a third shutout–out of four meetings–coming at the hands of the Avalanche, who prevailed 5-0.

So when there’s frustration mounting–it’s pretty easy to understand why. For a season that was supposed to herald in the beginning of Connor Bedard leading the Blackhawks to happier times, this season has been even tougher to swallow than the 2023-24 campaign that saw three eight-game losing streaks.

This current streak is inching closer to the current season’s high of eight as well. To put that into context, the Blackhawks have just one winning streak all season long and it was snapped after two.

So continues the misery of a franchise heading into the final 20 games of the season.

Here are a couple observations from tonight’s game.

Blackhawks Should Be Thankful They Don’t See Colorado Again This Year

The Hawks were shutout three times by the Avs this season by a combined margin of 13-0. The lone win came back in December in a 3-2 triumph at the United Center. It was shocking at the time–and seems more stunning after the last two outings.

To be fair, the Blackhawks are far behind in terms of the contention cycle and it’s shown. Which leads to the next thought–the Arizona Coyotes will be a good gauge as to where the Blackhawks are sitting now. Colorado just isn’t a fair assessment, but the Coyotes, who have slid back into lottery contention, can provide a clearer picture of things.

The Hawks have been outscored 15-2 in their last three games. On a back-to-back schedule with the Coyotes tomorrow night, there won’t be a better indication of where things could go as the trade deadline looms along with a possible eight-game losing streak.
