Defenseman
Games Played: 52
(Goals – Assists – Points):0-9-9
Contract Status: UFA
The Short View
The Chicago Blackhawks claimed Jarred Tinordi off of waivers from the New York Rangers back in October of 2022. For 2023-24, he didn’t always stand out, but he was a stop-gap that was able to play 52 games for a wounded team waiting for prospects to develop.
The Long View
Jarred Tinordi was a first-round pick back in the day but he never turned into that everyday defenseman teams thought he would be. It doesn’t seem likely the Blackhawks bring him back after this season. With younger players ready to go, it’s likely the Hawks move on and find more complimentary pieces to help those younger players along.
Tinordi was a minutes eater in 2023-24 but that option won’t be as likely next year. It’s far likelier both sides part ways.
The Bottom Line for Jarred Tinordi
The Chicago Blackhawks are going to try and be a much better team in 2024-25. With Connor Bedard entering his second season, they need to start making sure there are much better players around him. A guy like Jarred Tinordi won’t help him (or anyone) in that way.
There are good young defensemen to turn things over to like Kevin Korchinski, Ethan Del Mastro, and Alex Vlasic. With Seth Jones and Connor Murphy (if he isn’t traded) there as well, the spots for guys like Tinordi are dwindling.
There are better options out there for depth and Kyle Davidson has made it clear he’ll be improving the roster. The Hawks don’t need to be a playoff team in 2024-25 but they do need to be much better than they were in each of the last two seasons. That doesn’t leave much for Tinordi, who played more of a depth role than anything else.
