Blackhawks Daily: OIlers Take Game 7; Nazar An ‘Identity Piece?’
Everyone knows that the two best words in sports are Game Seven. We had one of those on Monday night when the all-Canada series between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks had one.
This series was incredible from the start and deserved the kind of ending that it got. The Oilers had a 3-0 lead when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a power-play goal during the second period.
It turned out that they needed every bit of that lead to hang on as the Canucks stormed back to make it 3-2. Nugent-Hopkins ended up with the game-winning goal on that power play that put Edmonton up by three.
Vancouver wasn’t expected to be a top NHL team this season but they took the Pacific Division much to the surprise of everyone. Then, they won a round in the playoffs vs the Nashville Predators before pushing these Oilers to the brink. They should be very proud of their season. They’ll be back.
Loaded with star power, the Oilers were able to get it done. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl each did their job leading the way as they will now face the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals. A lot of talent will be on the sheet of ice when these two squads meet. It will end up being one of the more entertaining matchups of the entire postseason up to this point.
On the other side of things, the Florida Panthers will take on the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Finals. That series is not short of star power either. The East gets the third round going on Wednesday night while the West picks back up on Thursday night. These two matchups are going to be incredible and set up a very good Stanley Cup Final.
Blackhawks In Case You Missed It
This recent bit of NHL news may be a clue as to who the Chicago Blackhawks are going to draft second overall.
Tyler Johnson‘s Chicago Blackhawks tenure didn’t go as either side was hoping for.
Frank Nazar could be an “identity piece” for the Chicago Blackhawks going forward.
