Blackhawks Daily: Connor McDavid To The Rescue
The Western Conference Finals began on Thursday night and it was as incredible as you’d imagine. The Dallas Stars took on the Edmonton Oilers in game one. This matchup has a lot of greatness and the first game lived up to it. Of course, Connor McDavid was in the middle of all of it.
The Oilers took a 2-0 lead and looked like they were going to cruise to a victory. Dallas battled back though and got the game tied. Tyler Seguin scored both Stars goals including one in the final minutes of regulation.
The Oilers played a great third period but that play went Seguin’s way and overtime was needed to decide this one as a result. Hockey fans deserve classics like this one.
The first overtime period was a tough one for Connor McDavid. One of the all-time greatest players is looking to win his first Stanley Cup but it is not easy no matter who you are.
Early in the period, McDavid took a four-minute double minor for high-sticking Matt Duchene. McDavid didn’t like the call but it was the right one as his stick made Duchene’s face bloody.
Later in the period, McDavid had an open cage to shoot on but he paused before shooting which allowed Jake Oettinger to make the save with some help from Branden Tanev. You don’t see that from McDavid too often. That puck needs to go in there.
Double OT was needed but it didn’t last long. On the first shift of the period, McDavid redirected a great Evan Bouchard pass into the net and the Oilers got it done.
McDavid made up for a couple of mistakes in the best way possible. He is doing everything he can to lead his team to victory and this was a big one.
Now, the Oilers have a 1-0 series lead and home-ice advantage in the series. This is far from over as a big response is coming from the Dallas Stars.
The Eastern Conference Finals will resume on Friday as the Florida Panthers have a 1-0 lead over the New York Rangers.
