Blackhawks Daily: Rangers Are On The Brink Of Elimination

The New York Rangers and Florida Panthers came into Thursday night’s game with the series all tied up 2-2. The Panthers won game four in overtime thanks to a power play goal by Sam Reinhart. The momentum then went to game five in Florida’s favor.
The New York Rangers loved returning to Madison Square Garden though as they took some momentum right back. There was no scoring in the first period but Chris Kreider scored at 2:04 of the second and gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
At 8:21 of the same period, the Panthers tied it up 1-1. Gustav Forsling scored a goal to get it even. Forsling is the only defenseman on either team to score in this series and this one was his second (fourth of the playoffs).
The third period came around and both teams were on edge. A game five with two teams that are tied in the series creates a lot of drama. The winner of this game goes on to win the series a lot.
10 minutes went by in the third and the score was still tied. Then, things changed. At 10:22, Anton Lundell scored to put the Panthers ahead. At 18:08, Sam Bennett put one into the empty net with a tremendous amount of effort.
It’s a good thing for Florida that Bennett scored it though because Alexis Lafreniere tipped in a great pass made by Mika Zibanejad. The 3-2 score in favor of Florida, however, stood as the final. The Panthers now have a 3-2 series lead.
Heading back to Sunrise, the Panthers have a chance to close this thing out on home ice. We’ll see if the Rangers go down or if they can force game seven.
In the West, the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars have a 2-2 series going into game five as well. That will take place on Friday night. Edmonton seems to have the momentum right now but the Stars are capable of getting it right back. One of those teams will do what Florida did on Thursday and put their opponent on the brink of elimination.
Blackhawks In Case You Missed It
The Blackhawks’ draft strategy was to go after high hockey IQ, speed, and top-end offensive skill. They’ve found potential talent beyond the first round. To see how that can come to fruition, look no further than Roope Hintz of the Dallas Stars.
The Chicago Blackhawks signed Martin Misiak to his entry-level deal earlier this week.
The Chicago Blackhawks have a lot riding on that second first-round pick. This is a look historically at what it can land you.
