Blackhawks Daily: Popular Paul Maurice; Rebuild Timelines

Published

on

Whether it’s the interviews with media or if he’s mic’d up for a game, Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice is a popular guy. Why shouldn’t he? All he’s done since coming Florida is win and now has a chance to finish the final job with a Stanley Cup win.

Florida Hockey Now’s George Richards wrote a few weeks about the popularity of Maurice, but it’s a different story with text messages and the Panthers bench boss. Maurice isn’t as dedicated to that craft, picking and choosing his time carefully as to when and how often he responds. The veteran coach admits he doesn’t use his phone often and has been known to forget it after he tosses into a drawer when returning home.

But what really stood out is how Maurice himself explained he’s not tied to his phone, an anomaly in an era where cell phones are used 24/7. It’s a good piece because it gives some insights into an engaging personality almost completely disengaged on devices–the main lifeline for people today.

However one slices it, Paul Maurice is a continues to be a story in the Panthers’ playoff run. He doesn’t even need to check his phone for that.

Montreal Hockey Now: Speaking of rebuild timelines, our colleagues in Montreal have their mock draft going up and make a compelling case for the Blackhawks pick at #2.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: An interesting story about Pittsburgh Penguins bench boss Mike Sullivan, a guy who won two Stanley Cups for the organization. But is he at a point where his closeness to the core three veterans could nullify his effectiveness?
