Blackhawks Daily: Matt Savoie Trade A Teachable Moment
A lot of questions, confusion surrounding the Matt Savoie trade to Edmonton. History will show how it’s a teachable moment.
Now and again you see an NHL team make a trade that makes you wonder. We saw one of those on Friday as the Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers struck a deal. Buffalo acquired Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio for Matt Savoie.
Savoie was a top-ten pick in 2022. He hasn’t exploded onto the scene like some other prospects but his ceiling is worth taking a risk on. McLeod is a solid defensive center that does score from time to time which is nice for Buffalo but it may prove unworthy of giving up on Savoie so soon.
Trades like this should make Blackhawks fans appreciate the job general manager Kyle Davidson has done thus far. Every move he makes is very calculated and he has a solid explanation for why they did it. There haven’t been any prospects sent away that leave you scratching your head.
This franchise has a loaded farm system right now and they aren’t all going to make it in the NHL with the Hawks. Eventually, you have to make decisions but it would be nice to wait until you’re in a winning situation.
Chicago has won the Stanley Cup twice since Buffalo last made the playoffs. Trades like this explain why they have been so inept for that long. Hopefully, Kyle will continue to run the organization with a focus on development and doing things the right way.
Chicago Blackhawks
Nick Foligno did his part in recruiting Tyler Bertuzzi to come play for the Chicago Blackhawks in free agency.
Oliver Moore is having a good summer. He is ready to force the Chicago Blackhawks to give him an ELC after a good 2024-25 with Minnesota.
Kyle Davidson promised that he was going to improve the Chicago Blackhawks. So far, he is on that path.
