Teuvo Teravainen Talks: ‘It’s Awesome To Be Back’

The Chicago Blackhawks made a few good signings this summer. The best contract they gave out might be the one handed to Teuvo Teravainen. He is now on a three-year deal with a cap hit of $5.4 million.

Teravainen, of course, was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round (18th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. He played for them for three seasons, including winning the Stanley Cup in 2015. He has since spent the last eight seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes since being traded with Bryan Bickell.

Teravainen has been more of a playmaker in his NHL career but managed to have a career-high 25 goals in 2023-24. Coming to Chicago, his ability to score and make plays will be helpful to those around him.

Teuvo Teravainen and Connor Bedard Would Be A Strong Top Line

One player that he will make better is Connor Bedard. He will likely get a shot to play on his right wing at even strength. Guys like Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi will be in the mix to be on the left side.

“Yeah, of course. I haven’t seen him play much but of course I’ve seen all the highlights. Seems like a pretty good player,” Teravainen said of Bedard.  “Young for sure, but hopefully I can help him get better. That would be cool to play with him.”

Teravainen touched on his time playing with Sebastian Aho on the Carolina Hurricanes and how he can help elite players. Bedard is on even another level from Aho so this should be fun for Teuvo if he gets the chance. He also touched on the fact that he can be a leader for some of the young guys (like Bedard) which is a great mindset to have for a player like him. His goals as he now returns as a veteran of the league?

“Just to get a chance to be a great player, help young players and be in a big role,” Teravainen said.  T”hat’s what motivates me.”

Kyle Davidson talked about making this team better. Getting a good player to compete for a spot next to Bedard is a great way to make good on that. As for the fans rejoicing that a favorite has returned, perhaps Teuvo Tervainen said it best.

“It’s awesome to be back.”
