Blackhawks Daily: Chicago Loved Artyom Levshunov Right Away

Now and again, the Chicago Blackhawks give a little insight into how they do things. News is few and far between at this summer stage so sometimes these social media hits are all we have.
A few days ago, they showed a video of their scouting/pre-draft meeting discussing the possibility of drafting Artyom Levshunov second overall.

Everyone knew that Macklin Celebrini was going to be the first overall pick made by the San Jose Sharks. The Boston University forward is incredible and was deserving of that honor.
The real intrigue started when Chicago came up to pick at two. Based on this little clip from social media, it sounds like the decision to draft the big Michigan State defenseman was easy for them.
One thing that stuck out was the fact that they believe he hasn’t even scratched the surface of his potential. If he reaches that in the NHL, the Hawks are going to have a stud franchise defenseman to lead the core with Connor Bedard up front.
There was some debate surrounding the Hawks’ potential selection going into the draft. Based on this clip, it doesn’t sound like there was much debate at all. Kyle Davidson also said that he knew who they were taking a few days before the draft.
It will be a few years before we know for sure if this was the right pick but at least it was made with confidence after doing their due diligence. Beyond that, it is clear that Chicago has a larger goal in mind when making these picks.
