Blackhawks Daily: Michkov Comes To America; State Of Chicago

Published

on

The first round of the 2023 NHL Draft is going to be talked about for a long time. It’s early but it has the making of the 2003 or 2015 draft which both produced tons of NHL players. Of course, Chicago Blackhawks fans will always remember taking Connor Bedard with the first overall pick. They also took Oliver Moore with pick number 19. They’d love for that to be memorable as well.

For a while, it seemed like Russian forward Matvei Michkov would be the second guy in the draft. A lot of scouts considered him to be the second-best in the draft.

His status (at the time) in the KHL scared a lot of teams away. He fell to 7th overall where the Philadelphia Flyers took the risk. The thought was that the team would be ready to win by the time his KHL contract expired.

In less than a colander year, his KHL contract was terminated and he was signed up to come to the NHL. Philly’s risk has been rewarded. This potential superstar is coming and it is going to be exciting to watch.

On Tuesday, Michkov made his big arrival in North America. The video of him walking down the terminal with Keith Jones and Danny Briere will live on in NHL history if he goes on to be special.

Connor Bedard and Matvei Michkov’s first-ever meeting will draw headlines around the NHL. It is one of the many things to be excited about as they have been mentioned together for a long time.
