Blackhawks Daily: Former GM Stan Bowman Is Back In NHL

The Chicago Blackhawks had some success with Stan Bowman at the helm. He had a few good moves here and there but inherited a Stanley Cup contender.
He also was a big part of the team’s eventual downfall. They were always going to come down from being elite but Bowman sped up the process with questionable decision making in the front office from trades to signings.
What finally ended his career in Chicago-and temporarily until yesterday–he was banned by the NHL in 2021 for mishandling the sexual assault of them Blackhawks prospect Kyle Beach. Earlier in July, Bowman was reinstated by the NHL. It took him less than a month to get a GM job as he was hired by the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. This decision was met with a lot of instant criticism.
For both hockey and non-hockey reasons, it is fair to question his fit as an NHL GM at this point but he has the job now. We’ll see where it goes from here as he is once again inheriting one of the best teams in the league. Hopefully for Bowman’s sake, lessons have been learned.
