Blackhawks Daily: Matthews To Be Captain; Chicago’s Depth Chart
On Monday afternoon, multiple reports came out of some pretty big news surrounding one of the NHL’s most popular teams. The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to name Auston Matthews to be their captain.
They took the slow developmental role with Matthews and his leadership. They had John Tavares as their captain and he was gracious in handing over that responsibility after being an honorable leader for years.
At Chicago Hockey Now, we recently discussed how the Chicago Blackhawks could follow suit with Connor Bedard. They could also make him the captain right away as some other teams have done with their young stars. With Nick Foligno in the mix, there are options.
In addition to Bedard and Foligno, the on-ice depth of the Chicago Blackhawks is as good as it has been in a while. They aren’t a playoff team yet but they have put themselves in a position to be much better than they have been in recent years.
With hockey about a month out, it feels like things are starting to pick up slowly. This Matthews news will drive conversation and there are many other great stories currently running on National Hockey Now:
