Blackhawks Daily: Laine Finally Traded; Askarov Rumors
The Chicago Blackhawks have a division rival who went out on a limb with two offer sheets. The St. Louis Blues tried to poach Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway from the Edmonton Oilers and they got them both. The Oilers declined to match both offers.
Meanwhile, there was some other big news that took place on Monday. Yaroslav Askarov of the Nashville Predators requested to be traded away. With playing time there lacking due to Juuse Saros being there, he is ready to move on. That’s something to keep an eye on as the weeks go on.
Even bigger news came out a few hours after the Askarov update as Patrik Laine has finally been traded. The Columbus Blue Jackets sent him to the Montreal Canadiens along with a second-round pick in exchange for defenseman Jordan Harris.
This is a huge deal as a guy who’s only 25 with over 200 career goals was traded to a marquee NHL franchise. They still have some holes to figure out but Laine will make them a better team if he is motivated to score a lot of goals. He has been an elite sniper in the past.
All of these bits of news are starting to make it feel like hockey is right around the corner. National Hockey Now, including Chicago Hockey Now, has some great stories to recap it all:
