Blackhawks Daily: Chicago’s Goaltending; Return For Askarov

The Chicago Blackhawks have a few goalies that they are hoping could be a part of their future. Arvid Soderblom has been given an early look in his career already but the results weren’t amazing while playing for a struggling team.
They also have Drew Commesso and Adam Gajan who are both prospects looking to one day take over an NHL net. You’d like to think that one of them does what they set out to accomplish which is to become a great goaltender in the best league in the world.
In the meantime, the Blackhawks are going to have Petr Mrazek and Laurent Brossoit as their big-league tandem for 2024-25. It isn’t a world-beating duo but it could be stable enough for a team trying to get better.
These two need to have a good year. Playing well is good for everyone involved. The skaters on the team can play their game knowing that their goalie has their back, the younger goaltenders aren’t being rushed, and they might win a few more games which will make everyone feel better.
Mrazek was good for Chicago last season despite the team’s struggles. Brossoit backed up the Vezina winner in Connor Hellebuyck with the Winnipeg Jets. That means he didn’t play a whole lot but he did have a 2.00 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in 15 games. The Jets were much better defensively so his numbers may not be quite that good again but he can help them eat some minutes.
The Chicago Blackhawks aren’t the only team with goaltending stories to read about. The Nashville Predators just traded one of the best goalie prospects in the world, Yaroslav Askarov.
