Blackhawks Daily: Draisaitl’s Contract; Tickets Going On Sale
The Chicago Blackhawks have announced that tickets for the 2024-25 season are about to go on sale to the general public. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m. CT.
This is exciting because it means that hockey is about to return. Everybody can get their tickets and be a part of a great developmental season in Chicago.
On Tuesday, there was some massive news surrounding one of the best players in the NHL. After a few months of wondering if he’d start the season on an expiring deal, Leon Draisaitl has a contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers.
When the new deal kicks in, Draisaitl will make $14 million over the eight years. It will be the highest average annual value for any player in the NHL. After years and years of domination in both the regular season and the playoffs, he has earned it.
Draisaitl is getting the deal that he is worth for a variety of on-ice reasons. People may see him as a top-flight goal scorer and that’s because he is. He has multiple 50-goal seasons on his resume but that’s not all that makes him an offensive threat.
His ability to make plays is the best part of his game. It’s hard to argue against him being one of the three best passers in the NHL right now. When you combine a shot like his with an all-world playmaking ability, you get a $14 million player.
If Connor Bedard enters the stratosphere that Draisaitl is in, the Hawks will have to pay him. The hope is that they can win a little while he’s a bit of a cheaper player before things get expensive. If he is this pricey one day though, it will mean he’s amongst the best of the best.
