Blackhawks Daily: Past Stanley Cup Success; Hawks need Mrazek
The Chicago Blackhawks are entering the the 2024-25 NHL Season looking to take a step forward from last year. Last season saw the Blackhawks finish with the second worst record in the league, but with plenty of additions this offseason, things could change.
For the Blackhawks to take the next step this upcoming season they will need Petr Mrazek. Mrazek played in 56 games this past season. Over the course of the season he went 18-31-4, putting up a .907 save percentage and a goals against average of 3.05.
Mrazek played well this past season, on a team that often gave up odd man rushes and plenty of scoring chances. As Chicago looks to take the next step and start competing in more games, they will need Mrazek to help solidify things in net.
With Laurent Brossoit out dealing with a knee injury, Mrazek will have to carry most of the workload to start the season. Chicago does have younger options in Arvid Soderblom and Drew Commesso, but the Mrazek Brossoit tandem was supposed to be an improvement over last season.
With the offseason near its end, now is also an opportunity to look to the past. The Chicago Blackhawks run winning three Stanley Cups in six seasons will be hard to repeat by any team. The Tampa Bay Lightning came close winning back to back Stanley Cups and going to the final three years in a row, but even they fell short.
The Blackhawks run from 2009 to 2015 saw the team go to five conference finals in seven seasons, win three Cups, win 16 playoff series and a Presidents’ Trophy. It’s hard to argue against that being the best stretch of hockey in the salary cap era.
