Blackhawks Daily: Isaak Phillips clears waivers, opening night

The Chicago Blackhawks start the 2024-25 NHL Regular Season tomorrow night with a matchup against the Utah Hockey Club – the new team on the block.
For the Blackhawks, this season still has reasons for optimism, despite a rough go throughout the preseason. With the Hawks finalizing their roster, the team placed defenseman Isaak Phillips on waivers yesterday. Phillips cleared waivers this afternoon.
Last season, Phillips played in 33 games with the Blackhawks registering six assists during that time. The Hawks seemed likely to place Phillips on waivers with Wyatt Kaiser nearing a return. The Blackhawks defense now consists of Seth Jones, Alex Vlasic, Connor Murphy, Alec Martinez, TJ Brodie and Nolan Allan. Artyom Levshunov and Wyatt Kaiser are both on IR to start the season.
The Blackhawks are one of three games taking place on opening night on Oct. 8. First the Seattle Kraken will host the St. Louis Blues at 3:30 p.m. CT, following by the Boston Bruins visiting the Florida Panthers at 6 p.m. and then the Blackhawks will visit Utah at 9 p.m.
Chicago will get the first look of what NHL hockey in Utah can look like. Maybe the Hawks can play spoiler in the new franchise’s first home game.
