Blackhawks News: Wyatt Kaiser activated from injured reserve

Published

on

The Chicago Blackhawks were without Wyatt Kaiser to start the 2024-25 NHL Regular season as Kaiser was on injured reserve with an illness. On Thursday, the team officially activated the 22-year-old defensemen.

Kaiser played in 32 games last season with the Blackhawks. During that time he dished out seven assists averaging 17:19 minutes of ice time a night.

Kaiser was a reliable piece in the Blackhawks blue line and seemed like a shoe in to rejoin the NHL roster once he was back from IR.

It might be some time before Blackhawks fans will see Kaiser in a game. Kaiser missed the entirety of the preseason and training camp. Head coach Luke Richardson may look to ease him back into play.

The Chicago Blackhawks drafted Wyatt Kaiser in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft. Last season he split time between the Rockford IceHogs and the Chicago Blackhawks. In 37 games with the IceHogs, Kaiser registered 18 points (4 G, 14 A).

With the Blackhawks activating Kaiser, the tea also sent Isaak Phillips to the AHL. Phillips cleared waivers earlier this week ahead of the season and won’t require waivers to be sent down right now.

For now, Kaiser will most likely serve as the team’s seventh defensemen for the next few games. There is no rush to get him back in, especially with Nolan Allan holding his own against Utah.

With Phillips being sent down to the IceHogs, the Rockford blue line gets all the more experienced. Kevin Korchinski, Ethan Del Mastro and Louis Crevier all have some NHL experience. Throw Phillips into the mix and Rockford will have a great back end in front of goaltender Drew Commesso.

Should Artyom Levshunov find his way to Rockford at some point the IceHogs will get all the more exciting.
