Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets and Chicago Blackhawks are set to faceoff tonight in Winnipeg for the Jets’ home opener.

For the Blackhawks, tonight’s game is all about not letting one loss turn into a losing streak. So, here is everything to know about the Winnipeg Jets going into tonight’s game.

Game 2 Blackhawks Opponent Watch: Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets enter tonight’s home opener hungry. After losing in the First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last summer, the Jets have something to prove over the course of the season. Winnipeg started the year on the right note facing off against the defending Western Conference Champs – the Edmonton Oilers.

In a tough game on the road, Winnipeg beat the Oilers on Wednesday. In a decisive fashion, the Jets beat Edmonton 6-0 with Connor Hellebuyck stopping all 30 shots from the Oilers.

Winnipeg had goals from a handful of different players on the roster: Adam Lowry, Mason Appleton, Rasmus Kupari, Dylan Samberg, Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele.

Highlights from the Winnipeg Jets 6 to 0 win over the Edmonton Oilers:

Season Leaders:

With just one game under Winnipeg’s belt here are last season’s leaders.

Goals: Kyle Connor (34)

Assists: Josh Morrissey (59)

Points: Mark Scheifele (72)

Special Teams:

The Winnipeg Jets went two for three on the power play and killed off the Oilers one power play on the night. Winnipeg actually had a below average power play and penalty kill last season so it will be interesting to see how the Blackhawks do with special teams tonight.

Player to Watch:

In three games against the Winnipeg Jets last season, Connor Bedard registered three goals, including two right after Christmas last season on Dec. 27, 2023. Connor Hellebuyck is a tough goalie, this will be a big test for the Hawks.

Key to Success:

The Blackhawks registered just 26 shots on goal against Utah on Tuesday. Tonight, look for the Blackhawks to shoot the puck more often – focusing less on setting up the perfect play and more on getting the puck to the net to create chances.

Hellebuyck is a tough goalie to beat. Chicago may have to hope for some deflections and screens in front to get the netminder off of his game.
