Blackhawks Game Day
Winnipeg Jets late comeback hands Blackhawks first OT loss
The Chicago Blackhawks captured a point on Friday night, falling to the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 in overtime of a tough road matchup.
Tonight’s game was a first for a lot of Blackhawks fans. Tonight was the first regular season game on the Chicago Sports Network (CHSN). Getting used to watching with the antenna was a bit of an uphill battle, once I moved to a different room in the house everything worked for the most part.
The Hawks deserved to win tonight. Chicago played a full 60 minutes, giving up a late goal with just over a minute left and subsequently losing early in overtime.
Blackhawks at Jets 10/11/2024 Scoresheet:
2nd Period:
16:52 CHI: Ryan Donato (1) [CHI 1 – WPJ 0]
Assisted by Pat Maroon (1)
3rd Period:
18:56 WPJ: Mark Scheifele (2) [CHI 1 – WPJ 1]
Assisted by Nikolaj Ehlers (2)
Overtime:
0:38 WPJ: Mark Scheifele (3) [CHI 1 – WPJ 2]
Assisted by Kyle Connor (1) and Josh Morrissey (3)
Takeaway:
Arvid Soderblom had a great night. After struggling throughout the preseason and last year, Soderblom looked great in the Blackhawks net. Soderblom finished the night with 33 saves and kept his rebounds under control not giving up too many chances. The Blackhawks getting one point instead of zero is to his credit.
The Blackhawks fourth line of Maroon, Donato and Athanasiou looked good tonight. While the team has not been able to roll four lines just yet, Chicago has had a lot of different players step up from time to time.
With almost 60 minutes played without giving up a goal, the Blackhawks defense definitely looked impressive tonight. The pairing of Alex Vlasic and TJ Brodie stood out in particular. Vlasic and Brodie had a strong night in their own end. How the blue line continues to develop as Richardson makes his decision on the pairings will be interesting to see.
