Jim’s Daily: Blackhawks lose to Flames; Goalie Goal; Michkov Scores

The Chicago Blackhawks lost a tough fought battle against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night, ending what should be consider a successful road trip to start the year.
On paper a 1-2-1 start might not scream success, but the Blackhawks have been in every game so far this season – something that was not the case last season.
Now, let’s dive in with everything going on around the NHL.
The Minnesota Wild made some history on Tuesday with Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson scoring a goal from the crease on an empty net against the St. Louis Blues. Gustavsson’s goal ended the game for the Wild, beating St. Louis 4-1 on the road.
Goalie goals are always an exciting thing to watch. This time of year they come with an added bonus. Now, fans can say Gustavsson has any many goals as Kirill Kaprizov this season (1). Gustavsson made 27 saves in the Wild’s win over St. Louis.
Matvei Michkov and the Philadelphia Flyers might have lost 4-3 in overtime, but Flyers rookie Michkov shined throughout the night. Michkov registered his first career goal on the power play in the first period. Just a few minutes later Michkov scored again.

The Edmonton Oilers also are worth mentioning as they finally got in the win column on Tuesday. Edmonton is the popular favorite to get back to the Stanley Cup Final from the Western Conference, but the team cannot lose track of what comes first – the regular season.
It was an emotional night in Columbus last night. During the Blue Jackets’ home opener, Columbus honored Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. It was an emotional and beautiful tribute from the Blue Jackets, capped off with the opening faceoff. Columbus started four players – leaving Gaudreau’s spot in the lineup open. Thirteen seconds were also run off the clock to start the game in honor of Johnny.
