Blackhawks News: Landon Slaggert signs contract extension

Some Chicago Blackhawks News came out early on Friday, as the team announced Landon Slaggert had been signed to a two year contract extension keeping him in Chicago through the 2026-27 NHL Season.
The Blackhawks drafted Slaggert in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft – 79th overall. Slaggert’s contract will carry a value of $1.8 million and a cap hit of $900,000 a season. The 22 year-old will be 25 at the end of the deal and will be a RFA.
Slaggert’s contract will be a one-way deal, so there could be a chance Hawks fans could be seeing him in the NHL next season. Currently Slaggert is in the final year of his entry level contract he signed in March of 2024.
Slaggert played his collegiate career with the University of Notre Dame, before signing with the Blackhawks, Slaggert registered 20 goals and a team leading 31 points in 36 games with the Irish. In 16 NHL Games last year he registered a goal and three assists.
The 6-foot, 180-pound forward dressed in 136 collegiate games with Notre Dame from 2020-24, totaling 92 points (47G, 45A). Slaggert took on a leadership role with the Irish, serving as an alternate captain from 2022-24. He helped the club to two NCAA Tournament appearances (2021 & 2022) during his time in South Bend.
A native of South Bend, Ind., Slaggert also captured gold with Team USA at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, appearing in seven games. He also registered six points (2G, 4A) in five games for Team USA at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.
In one game with the Rockford IceHogs this season, Slaggert registered an assist on a goal from Cavan Fitzgerald. The Blackhawks could use some of Slaggert’s physicality in the future. Kyle Davidson signing the young forward to an extension early definitely is the right call.
