Blackhawks Postgame
Highlights and Takeaways from the Blackhawks 4-2 loss to Buffalo

The Chicago Blackhawks battled hard on Saturday night but fell short to the Buffalo Sabres at the United Center. The Blackhawks were in this game till the very end, but a couple of bad bounces made the difference losing 4-2.
Highlights and takeaways from the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
1st Period:
During the Blackhawks home opener on Thursday, Chicago started the game flying. Tonight, the Hawks just didn’t look dialed in early, players were missing passes and just not connecting. Tage Thompson got the Sabres on the board early with a goal Arvid Soderblom might want back.

8:29 – Beck Malenstyn (1) [BUF 2 CHI 0]
Assisted by Connor Clifton (2) and Peyton Krebs (2)
Bad play for the Blackhawks on the second goal of the night. The puck snuck past Soderblom after hitting multiple skates on its way to the net.

Funny moment near the end of the first period. Before the Blackhawks first power play of the night, during the commercial break the Hawks in-game presentation played a game of rock paper scissors with the 100 level facing the 300 level. The 300 level came out with an early lead but the 100 level came back and won right at the end of the break. So, the Blackhawks power play started with boos from the 300 level frustrated with the loss.
2nd Period:
Lukas Reichel had a grade A scoring chance early in the game. After a great pass from Andreas Athanasiou, Reichel fired a one timer at Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

Grouping the two goals together here. The Blackhawks fourth line has been rolling in the second. After not getting much ice time in the first, the fourth line has combined for two goals and a couple of big scoring chances.
Not too shabby for your first goal as a Blackhawk, huh?😏 pic.twitter.com/nB8j6Br2KU

The Blackhawks definitely had a better second period outshooting the Sabres 13 to 8. Unfortunately near the end of the period JJ Peterka was left open infront of the net and gave the Sabres a 3-2 lead going into the second intermission.

3rd Period:
The Blackhawks were battling for a goal throughout the third period. A big open ice hit cost the Blackhawks valuable minutes as a line brawl after a Krebs hit on Kurashev resulted in a penalty on the Hawks.
