Jim’s Daily: Starting On Time; Reichel’s Rise; Levshunov Activated
All 32 teams were in action on Tuesday night, and unfortunately for the Chicago Blackhawks the night didn’t end with a win.
The Blackhawks fell 6 to 3 to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Outplayed from the opening shift, the Hawks dug themselves a big hole early. Despite rallying in the second period, the Canucks came out on top – in part thanks to some questionable calls.
The Hawks have to address something quickly. Chicago has to start the game on time and set the tone from the jump. During the opening season road trip, it really felt like the Hawks were playing that way, looking like the team that was promised after Kyle Davidson’s offseason additions. But since coming home to the United Center, the team has fallen into old habits.
Reichel on the Rise:
I will be going more in depth on Reichel later today, but for now I wanted to highlight Reichel’s rise in his three games played. Reichel has played in the last three games, putting up two assists during that time.
His first two games saw him playing on the fourth line and building some good chemistry with Craig Smith. However last night Luke Richardson gave Reichel a big opportunity in the second period – playing on the team’s second line with Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi.
The line registered a little over three minutes of ice time together and didn’t get much going when it comes to scoring chances. Still, Richardson turned to Reichel with Kurashev as a healthy scratch and Athanasiou struggling.
Blackhawks activate Levshunov
Before puck drop yesterday, Chicago activated Artyom Levshunov from injured reserve and assigned him to the Rockford IceHogs. Levshunov, who was drafted second overall this summer, missed the preseason with a right foot injury.
