Blackhawks Daily: Beating the Champs; Werenski’s Night To Remember

Chicago Blackhawks forward Teuvo Teravainen skates up ice with the puck ahead of his power play goal against the Florida Panthers on Nov. 21.

The Chicago Blackhawks held on, beating the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers, 3-1 on Thursday night – not a bad way to start a Friday.

With the Blackhawks close win, came a sign of relief from the Hawks in the locker room. This was the second game in a row Chicago entered the third period up 2-1, with Anaheim coming back to win just a few days prior. Now comes the tough challenge, turning a one game win streak into something more. Chicago has a tough task ahead on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Elsewhere around the league, Columbus Blue Jackets’ defenseman Zach Werenski had himself a night. Werenski registered a career best five points (2G, 3A), including the OT winner in a 7-6 comeback win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning led at one point 3-0 but the Blue Jackets did not give up, coming back to win it all.

Blackhawks News You May Have Missed:

Former Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews shared an update on social media on his healing journey on Thursday. Toews has not played hockey since the 2022-23 NHL Season. While Toews has not officially retired, his mark on the NHL and the Blackhawks over the course of his career will long be remembered as one of the best runs as a captain.

The Blackhawks are going to need all the help they can get at center, especially if Jason Dickinson misses time with an apparent hand injury. One option Kyle Davidson could consider is a trade, potentially for a player on an opposing team the Blackhawks are set to play on Saturday.

News from around the National Hockey Now Network:

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins have struggled over the first month of the season. With stacking defeats, it’s time to wonder if Kyle Dubas and Mike Sullivan are on the same page.

Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins are trying to find a much needed spark, they might have found it in Mark Kastelic who has brought a level of physicality and fighting ability helping to fuel the team.
