Blackhawks Postgame
Hall’s Hat Trick, Bedard’s Goal Drought Snapped and More From Blackhawks 6-2 Win
The Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars squared off for the third time this season before Thanksgiving, as the Blackhawks had lost their previous two in Dallas. Head coach Luke Richardson tried a new first line of Connor Bedard, Philipp Kurashev, and Taylor Hall, looking to spark their offense, and the Stars were looking to bounce back after a 6-4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Blackhawks came out with their most exciting and dominant win of the season. Here are 4 thoughts from the Blackhawks’ 6-2 win against the Stars.
1. Deck The Halls
Taylor Hall is one of the forwards who was off to a really slow start, and even got healthy scratched recently with only six points in 20 games. The last time Hall scored a goal was against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 22.
Against the Stars, he scored 17 seconds in (17 seconds is always a good omen for the Blackhawks, right?), and he scored again less than five minutes later. Considering that he went from two goals in 20 games to two goals in the first period, I would say that was much needed for Hall.
He wasn’t done yet, either. He scored a hat trick in the third period, his first hat trick since 2013.
As the Blackhawks tweeted, “Deck the Halls!”
2. The Drought Is Over
Connor Bedard snapped his 12-game goal drought, and the look on his face was priceless. His goal put the Blackhawks up 3-0 on the power play.

His goal opened the floodgates, and he looked confident all night, exactly what the team, the fans, and Bedard himself wanted to see!
3. Who Are These Blackhawks?
The Blackhawks scored six goals on 18 shots, and scoring three goals in a game is usually otherworldly for them, so six goals was a complete shock. It’s the first time they scored six goals in a game this season, against a very good Stars team.
Even defenseman Louis Crevier got his first NHL goal in his second game for the Hawks this season to make the score 6-1. That got Hawks fans on their feet!
Also, 12 different Hawks players had a point tonight. Who are these guys?
4. The Blackhawks Need More Of This
Something that kept nagging at me during this game was how frustrating it is that the Blackhawks don’t always have these efforts. The Blackhawks are capable of scoring goals and giving more than they have shown, as sometimes their performances are streaky. Tonight was a good reminder of what the team can do, and hopefully, there will be more efforts like this down the road.
Putting up six goals against a probable Stanley Cup contender is a confidence booster. Richardson’s lineup juggling worked, and it was an outstanding night for them. They were winning battles, they had a strong net-front presence, they had a shooting mentality. More importantly, they started on time and closed the game with a complete effort. The United Center was loud. That is what Blackhawks hockey is about and what they need more of as they navigate this rebuild. It was great hockey to watch.
