Blackhawks Postgame
Soderblom Pulled, Bedard’s Skill, More From Blackhawks 5-4 Loss To Islanders
The Chicago Blackhawks lost a tough fought game in New York on Thursday night, after beating the Rangers on Monday, they lost a pretty good showing against the New York Islanders, losing 5-4.
The Blackhawks were down 5-1 with time running out in the third period, but Chicago played till the very end, making things interesting.
1. Blackhawks play till the final whistle.
With about nine minutes left in the third period, the Blackhawks were down 5-1, but TJ Brodie got things going scoring his first goal of the year. The Blackhawks’ New York trip has shown a lot of improvements. The Hawks not quitting and playing till the final whistle is a major improvement, especially when the game was so lopsided.
2. Connor Bedard’s Confidence.
Bedard finished the night with a goal, two assists and four shots on goal. Bedard definitely has found his swagger since the coaching change, pulling off some highlight reel moves tonight in New York. Just take a look at Bedard’s goal tonight.

All of a sudden, Bedard finds himself on a three game point streak since the coaching change.
3. Drew Commesso makes his debut.
Drew Commesso made two saves on two shots tonight in relief of Arvid Soderblom. Commesso just had his first 11 minutes of NHL experience. With Mrazek out with an injury and the Hawks needing to rely on Soderblom, him having a shaky night is definitely a sign for caution.
4. Bertuzzi’s finding his game for Blackhawks.
Tyler Bertuzzi played tonight with Jason Dickinson and Nick Foligno on the Hawks third line, but it was late in the game that he found the back of the net. Bertuzzi has looked more confident since the coaching change, with five shots on goal and almost 17 minutes of ice time. Bertuzzi registered the Hawks two late goals tonight, hopefully he can continue finding the back of the net in the coming weeks.
