The Chicago Blackhawks will return to practice ice this morning. They will have two days to prepare for the Tampa Bay Lightning, who will be at the United Center on Friday night. Trade rumors are starting to pick up steam in Chicago and across the league.

Blackhawks Chirps

  • It sounds more and more with each passing day that the Blackhawks are ready to move on from Philipp Kurashev. It’s hard to believe we’ve reached this point after he had a career season last year. According to Harman Dayal and Chris Johnston of The Athletic, his “lack of attention to detail on the defensive side of the puck and compete level are the biggest reasons the coaching staff has lost faith in him.” I can’t imagine Kurashev would fetch a lot at the deadline, but any deal would open up a roster spot. A few more two-point efforts, like we saw on Sunday, could raise his trade value.
  • On this date in 1994, Craig Anderson made 30 saves to earn his first NHL shutout and win as the Blackhawks beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-0. He entered the game with a 0-11-2 record to start his career.
  • Happy 41st Birthday to Ben Eager! The Blackhawks acquired the former first-round pick from the Philadelphia Flyers on Feb. 18, 2007, for Jim Vandermeer. His most memorable moment in Chicago came when he scored the game-winning goal in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against his former team. He had 18 goals and 33 points in 144 games with the Blackhawks before he was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers.

NHL Chirps

  • The J.T. Miller trade drama is the story that keeps on giving. He’s been tied to the New York Rangers, who reportedly had a deal for him fall through over the weekend. James Nichols at New Jersey Hockey Now cited a new report by Pierre LeBrun that the New Jersey Devils have entered the Miller sweepstakes. The Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars have also been connected to the Vancouver Canucks’ forward.
  • The Philadelphia Flyers are expected to be active at the trade deadline. According to Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia, general manager Danny Briere said he’s not shopping defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, but he is receiving some calls on him. Risolainen scored in overtime to beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 on Tuesday, extending the Flyers’ point streak to six games.
  • The New York Rangers beat the Ottawa Senators 5-0. Matt Rempe scored his first goal of the season, with Adam Edstrom getting the primary assist. According to The Athletic’s Peter Baugh, they tied Zdeno Chara and Dougie Hamilton for the tallest combination of goal scorer and primary assister on a single goal in NHL history at a combined height of 13-foot-3.
  • The crazy game also featured this altercation between Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin and Senators captain Brady Tkachuk.
  • The Nashville Predators extended their point streak against the San Jose Sharks by beating them 7-5 after trailing 5-1 in the second period. This was their first four-goal comeback victory in franchise history. Macklin Celebrini scored his 14th goal in the loss and passed Patrick Marleau for the most points in franchise history by an 18-year-old with 33.
  • Speaking of Calder Trophy contenders, Lane Hudson recorded his 36th assist in the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 win over the Lightning. He has assists in nine straight games, tying Shayne Gostibehere (2015-16) for the longest assist streak in NHL history by a rookie.
  • Was Brent Seabrook at the Edmonton Oilers game last night?
