Chicago Blackhawks
Morning Chirps: Interest Grows in Donato, Big Night For Moore, Hartman in Trouble

The Chicago Blackhawks are off today after getting beat up by the Florida Panthers yesterday. The Rockford IceHogs picked up a big win thanks to key prospects. Meanwhile, trade speculations are heating up, and a former Blackhawks first-round pick is in trouble with the league.
Blackhawks Chirps
- Landon Slaggert scored the fastest goal to start a game in franchise history; then it was all downhill after that in a 5-1 loss to the Panthers.
- You can get the perspective from the winning locker room at Florida Hockey Now.
- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen wrote today that the Ottawa Senators will look to be buyers at the March 7 trade deadline. He believes that the Senators are looking to add a forward who can play in their top six. He mentioned Ryan Donato as one of the players they are interested in, along with Brandon Tanev of the Seattle Kraken.
- Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times gives what to be on the lookout for over the last 30 games of the season.
- Oliver Moore had a goal and two primary assists last night to lead Minnesota to a 4-1 win over Wisconsin.
- John Mustard scored a nice little spinning goal for Providence last night. The 2024 third-round pick has six goals and 16 points in 26 NCAA games.
IceHogs Chirps
- Wearing their all-black “Screw City” uniforms, the IceHogs picked up a bit 5-4 shootout win against the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday. Rockford got three straight first-period goals by Cavan Fitzgerald, Brett Seney, and Andreas Athanasiou. After the Admirals answered with three goals in a row, Samuel Savoie tied the game in the opening minute of the third period. Cole Guttman and Athanasiou scored in the shootout to earn the extra point. Artyom Levshunov and Kevin Korchinski had primary assists on the night. Levshunov has points in back-to-back games for the first time since late November. He has 30 shots on goal over his last nine games.
- Korchinski and Guttman left for Coachella Valley to take part in the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic. The Skills Competition is tonight at 8 pm CT, with the All-Star Challenge starting at 8 pm CT on Monday night. Both events will air live on the NHL Network and can be streamed on FloHockey.
- The IceHogs will be back in action next weekend with a pair of games at the Texas Stars on Friday and Saturday.
NHL Chirps
- It sure feels like there are two trade deadlines this season. The standard one on March 7, and a new one ahead of the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off. A bevy of big deals has been made over the past 10 days. The San Jose Sharks made one of those deals by sending Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci to the Dallas Stars for a 2025 first-round pick and a conditional third-round pick. Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now certainly isn’t a fan of the trade.
- J.T. Miller scored two goals in his first game for the New York Rangers, but it wasn’t enough as they were doubled up 6-3 by the Boston Bruins. David Pastrnak scored his 18th career hat trick to become the sixth player in franchise history to record 70 three-point games. He joined the elite list of Phil Esposito, Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque, Bobby Orr, Johnny Bucyk, and Rick Middleton.
- Brent Burns had an assist on Saturday to become the 13th defenseman in NHL history to record 900 points. I’ll let this one slide, even though some of those points were accumulated early in his career when he was a forward.
- The Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets played one heck of a game last night, in a battle of the top teams in each conference. Winnipeg won in overtime, but not before Alex Ovechkin tied the game late in the third period. He is now only 18 goals away from becoming the NHL’s all-time leader. Will he do it this season?
- Minnesota Wild forward and former Blackhawks first-round pick Ryan Hartman has an in-person hearing for an incident with Ottawa’s Tim Stutzle last night. As Michael Russo of The Athletic explains below, this could be a lengthy suspension for Hartman.
