The Chicago Blackhawks took Sunday off after returning home from their 1-2-0 road trip. They will hit the practice ice later this morning as they prepare for the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday. Meanwhile, one of the organization’s top prospects continues to score at a torrid pace.

Blackhawks Chirps

  • Ontario Hockey League goaltenders cannot wait until Nick Lardis turns pro so they can start sleeping at night. The Blackhawks’ 2023 third-round pick had another massive game on Sunday with four goals and an assist in a 9-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves. This was his 14th game with at least three points. Lardis is on an 11-game point streak in which he’s scored 16 goals and 23 points. His recent heater has him atop the OHL with 48 goals and second in points with 81. Top 2025 draft prospect Michael Misa is first with 86 points and second with 40 goals. Imagine having both in the organization come the summer.
  • Speaking of multi-goal games, on this date in 1982, Grant Mulvey had the first five-goal game in franchise history as the Blackhawks beat the St. Louis Blues 9-5. He also recorded two assists to tie Max Bentley’s 1943 record for most points in a game.

  • Happy 55th Birthday to Keith Carney! The Blackhawks acquired the rugged defenseman on Oct. 26, 1993, from the Buffalo Sabres for Craig Muni. Carney retired in 2008 after 16 seasons and 1,018 NHL games.

NHL Chirps

  • The Detroit Red Wings might be in the market for a defenseman before the March 7 trade deadline. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reported that Jeff Petry will miss the next 6-8 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair an undisclosed injury. The veteran blueliner hasn’t played since getting hurt against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 2. The Red Wings also activated Patrick Kane off injured reserve and replaced him with forward J.T. Compher.
  • Former Blackhawks first-round draft pick Henri Jokiharju will participate in the 4 Nations Face-Off later this month. The Buffalos Sabres’ defenseman was added to Finland’s roster on Sunday after Miro Heiskanen and Jani Hakanpaa will miss the tournament due to injury. Urho Vaakainen of the New York Rangers was also added to Finland’s squad.
  • Jonathan Quick made 34 saves to lead the Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the Golden Knight. He became the 15th goaltender in league history and the first born in the United States to win 400 games.
