Morning Chirps: Pat Maroon Trade Rumors, Ryan Greene Win Beanpot

The teams of the 4 Nations Face-off all hit the practice ice for the first time on Monday as we were left without any NHL action. Another one of the Chicago Blackhawks veteran trade chips has two new possible destinations, while a top prospect won a prestigious trophy.
Blackhawks Chirps
- Teuvo Teravainen, the Blackhawks’ lone representative at the 4 Nations Face-off, practiced with his Finnish teammates for the first time. Monday was an optional skate since they don’t play until Thursday against the United States, so Teravainen was one of 11 skaters on the ice. Finland has been decimated with injuries, but they did get some good news. Head coach Antti Pennanen said Mikko Rantanen would play in the tournament opener.
- According to Jeff Marek on Daily Faceoff, Pat Maroon will be traded before the March 7 deadline. He lists the Tampa Bay Lightning and Panthers as two teams that seem interested in acquiring the Big Rig.

- Boston University beat No. 1 Boston College 4-1 on Monday to win the 2025 Beanpot Championship. The win gave them their 32nd Beanpot title in program history and their first since 2022. Blackhawks’ prospect Ryan Greene was a plus-2 with two shots on goal.
- On this date in 1967, Bobby Hull scored his 19th career hat trick in a 4-4 tie with the Toronto Maple Leafs, extending the Blackhawks’ unbeaten streak to 13 games (10-0-3).
- Happy 58th birthday to Blackhawks assistant coach Derek King!
NHL Chirps
- Sidney Crosby was a full participant in practice for Team Canada after missing his last two games with an upper-body injury. Even though he will continue to be checked out by doctors of the next two days, he plans on playing against Sweden on Wednesday night.
- The Vancouver Canucks have provided us with a lot of discussion over the past few weeks with the J.T. Miller trade drama. Elias Pettersson was another name attached to trade rumors, but Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects says the Canucks have officially pulled the star forward off the trade market.
- The strange saga of Jesse Puljujarvi continued yesterday. His contract was terminated on Sunday, but instead of heading to Europe, as many expected, he elected to stay in North America. On Monday, he signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) with the Charlotte Checkers, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Panthers. A player on an AHL PTO can play up to 25 games, but the contract can be terminated at any time.
- Former Blackhawks defenseman Andreas Englund is now a member of the Nashville Predators after he was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings. He was acquired in 2023 from the Colorado Avalanche for Jack Johnson. Englund had one assist in the 11 games he played for the Blackhawks.
