Chicago Blackhawks
Morning Chirps: Moore & Boisvert Stay Hot, 2025 NHL Draft Location Announced
The Chicago Blackhawks are right back at it tonight when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs at 6 pm. There will be no morning skate today, so the lineup will not be confirmed until later this afternoon. We’ll have your full game-day preview once we get word from Anders Sorensen. The Rockford IceHogs had their season-high winning streak snapped, while the NHL had a busy first day back from the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
Blackhawks Chirps
- The Blackhawks were not outplayed last night as badly as the 5-1 score suggests. A lack of finish and momentary lack of attention to detail cost them against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sound familiar?
- After scoring an empty-net goal on Friday, Oliver Moore lit the lamp again to help the University of Minnesota beat Ohio State 6-3. The 2023 first-round pick has goals in three straight outings and five goals and eight points in his last 10 games. Sam Rinzel picked up a pair of assists in the win. He has nine goals and 27 points in 34 games this season.
- Sacha Boisvert capped off his big weekend with two more goals against the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The talented freshman has 12 goals and 23 points in 30 games for the University of North Dakota.
- On this date in 1964, Glen Hall became the third goaltender in NHL history to have five 30-win seasons by shutting out the Boston Bruins 2-0.
- On Feb. 23, 1991, Michel Goulet scored his first hat trick with the Blackhawks in a 3-3 tie with the Minnesota North Stars. The three goals made him the 30th player in league history to score 1,000 career points.
IceHogs Chirps
- The Lehigh Valley Phantoms made their first-ever visit to Rockford and beat the IceHogs 5-4 to snap their season-high four-game winning streak. Joey Anderson led the way with two goals. Cavan Fitzgerald and Louis Crevier also found the back of the net. Top defensive prospects Kevin Korchinski and Artyom Levshunov had assists. Speaking of assists, Zach Sanford had two of them for his third straight multi-point game.
NHL Chirps
- Thomas Drance of The Athletic wrote that the next few games could determine Brock Boeser’s future with the team. With no contract extension on the horizon, if the Canucks stumble out of the break, the veteran forward could be on the market. If Boeser becomes a free agent this summer, he should be on the Blackhawks’ list of possible additions.
- Not only did the Detroit Red Wings blow a third-period lead and lose a crucial point in overtime to the Minnesota Wild, but they also lost center Andrew Copp to injury. He appeared to hurt his shoulder in a scrum after Alex DeBrincat dished out a big hit to Brock Faber. Fighting after clean hits remains dumb.
- The Winnipeg Jets beat the St. Louis Blues 4-3 in a shootout last night to extend their winning streak to a franchise-record nine straight games. This streak surpassed their eight-game winning streak, and they had to open the season. The Jets lead the NHL with 83 points, one more than the Washington Capitals.
- Auston Matthews scored his 389th career goal last night, tying Darryl Sittler for second place in franchise history. He is 31 goals behind Mats Sundin for the most in a Maple Leafs uniform.
- Finally, the NHL officially announced that Los Angeles will host the 2025 NHL Entry Draft on June 27-28.
