Blackhawks Chirps
- The young Blackhawks came back from an early 2-0 deficit while thriving in a playoff atmosphere in last night’s 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
- Marc Dumont of Montreal Hockey Now explains the confusion surrounding Frank Nazar’s shootout goal.
- The folks at Icethetics released a new YouTube video revealing what they know about NHL jerseys for next season. Skip to the 8:00 mark for the Blackhawks’ segment, where they say: “Chicago is poised to have special uniforms for next season only. I’m told to expect new home and 3rd jersey designs, at the very least.”
- Former Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford was surprised with the news that he will be inducted into the QMJHL Hall of Fame. He went 96-69-18 with a .913 save percentage, 2.80 goals-against average, and 11 shutouts in his four seasons with the Moncton Wildcats.
- The Windsor Spitfires have a 3-0 stranglehold on their second-round series after beating the Kitchener Rangers 6-3 in Game 3. AJ Spellacy missed his second straight game, and fourth out of the last five, with an undisclosed injury. Jack Pridham picked up his first point of the series with an assist.
- Speaking of OHL injuries, we failed to mention that Nick Lardis left Sunday’s game with an injury while caught up in his second hat trick of the playoffs. He suffered an apparent lower-body injury while trying to avoid a check. The Brantford Bulldogs have given no update on his condition. Game 3 against the Oshawa Generals is tonight.
- On this date in 1993, Jeremy Roenick scored his 50th goal of the season in a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. He and Bobby Hull remain the only two Blackhawks with back-to-back 50-goal seasons.
NHL Chirps
- The San Jose Sharks are holding a press conference later today. According to a report from Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Logan Couture will announce his retirement due to injury. The Sharks captain has been limited to only six games over the past two years due to a deep groin issue. He’ll finish his career with 323 goals and 701 points in 933 games, all in San Jose.
- Seravalli also reported that the Boston Bruins front office is safe, with Cam Neely and Don Sweeney expected to remain at their posts.
- According to Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff, Washington Capitals prospect Cole Hudson is leaning towards returning to Boston University for his sophomore season.
- James Nichols of New Jersey Hockey Now explains why Devils forward Paul Cotter is suspended for the final two games of the regular season.
