Morning Chirps: Soderblom Chooses Arbitration, Sharks Not Done

We’ve got some very quick Chirps for you today, as Saturday was a slow news day. The biggest story was 11 players electing for salary arbitration, including one of the Chicago Blackhawks’ restricted free agents.
Blackhawks Chirps
- According to the NHLPA, 11 players have elected salary arbitration, including Blackhawks goaltender Arvid Soderblom. The deadline for the second club-elected salary arbitration notification is July 6 at 5 p.m. ET. Salary arbitration hearings will be held from July 20 to Aug. 4. The Blackhawks and Soderblom can still negotiate a new deal before their hearing. However, any player who chooses salary arbitration is prohibited from negotiating with other teams or signing an offer sheet.
- Speaking of goaltenders, the Blackhawks are proving that you can never have too many of them.
- Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff wondered if Lukas Dostal and Mason McTavish of the Anaheim Ducks could be offer sheet targets. Dostal filed for arbitration, so the Ducks are safe there. However, McTavish was one of the three RFAs I suggested the Blackhawks sign to an offer sheet earlier this offseason.

NHL Chirps
- In addition to Soderblom and Dostal, Morgan Barron (Jets), Drew Helleson (Ducks), Kaapo Kakko (Kraken), Nicolas Robertson (Maple Leafs), Dylan Samberg (Jets), Jayden Struble (Canadiens), Conor Timmins (Sabres), Maksim Tsyplakov (Islanders), and Gabriel Vilardi (Jets) all elected for salary arbitration.
- The Washington Capitals signed Lynden Lakovic to a three-year, entry-level contract. He was selected 27th overall at last weekend’s NHL Entry Draft. He’s expected to return to the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League next season.
- According to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now, the Sharks are still looking to add another “top-nine winger.” General manager Mike Grier wants a little more scoring punch after signing defensemen Dmitry Orlov, Nick Leddy, and John Klingberg, and forwards Philipp Kurashev and Adam Gaudette.
- NHL Birthday Roll Call, July 6: George Armstrong, Joe Watson, Brad Park, Ron Duguay, Chris Dingman, Justin Schultz, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
