The opening day of the Blackhawks’ rookie camp began yesterday down at Fifth Third Arena in Chicago, and boy, was it refreshing to see action happening on the ice.

The Blackhawks will send a stacked roster to the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase this weekend, including two former first-round picks in Artyom Levshunov and Sam Rinzel. Both, by the way, received national praise earlier this week from the NHL Network in their latest prospects rankings.

More on that in the links below.

Around the league, the contract news and trade rumors have certainly ramped up over the last couple of days. Kirill Kaprisov and the Minnesota Wild have reportedly reached a standstill in contract negotiations, Sidney Crosby himself might not know what his long-term future holds, and Michael Misa has finally signed on the dotted line.

All that and more in the Daily!

Chicago Blackhawks News & Tidbits

Chicago Hockey Now: Artyom Levshunov and Sam Rinzel are set to lead the Blackhawks at the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase. Both were among the standouts at the opening day of rookie camp on Wednesday, and they were also recently featured in the NHL Network’s Top 25 Prospects List.

More CHN: There are still 12 days until the preseason begins, but the prospects will be in action this weekend! Here are the notables to watch, along with the entire Blackhawks’ roster that’s heading to Minnesota.

More CHN: Spencer Knight is entering his first full season with the Blackhawks, and there’s still plenty to learn about the 24-year-old goaltender. But GM Kyle Davidson and the front office now have a decent idea of what Knight’s next contract could look like.

Connor Bedard won’t be on the ice at Fifth Third Arena for a few more days, but the Blackhawks’ social media team blessed fans with a few snapshots of the 2023 1st overall pick from the NHL Player Media Tour on Wednesday. Connor Content is always welcome.

NHL Trade Talk, News, National Hockey Now

The Athletic: A Wild Wednesday in Minnesota. Frank Seravalli reported that star forward Kirill Kaprisov turned down an eight-year, $128 million contract offer that would have made him the highest-paid player in the NHL. On the other hand, Wild GM Bill Guerin still seems optimistic that the two sides can work out an agreement. What comes next?

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Sidney Crosby isn’t going anywhere while long-time pals Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang are still in Pittsburgh. After that? Then things start getting spicy, and even Crosby seems unsure of his long-term future with the Penguins.

Vegas Hockey Now: There still isn’t an extension in place between the Golden Knights and Jack Eichel, but there doesn’t seem to be any concern from either party.

San Jose Hockey Now: The 2025 2nd overall pick has finally inked his entry-level contract. But why did it take so long, and how can Michael Misa make the Sharks‘ NHL roster?
