Jack’s Daily: Victory Tuesday; Toews Tallies First Point; Hutson Signs With Habs
Happy victory Tuesday! The Chicago Blackhawks and Bears both earned key wins on Monday night, defeating the Utah Mammoth (3-1) and Washington Commanders (25-24), respectively. Let’s get a few more of those Chicago doubles this year!
The Blackhawks defeated the Utah Mammoth at the United Center for their first victory of the 2025-26 season, with the third line of Ryan Donato, Jason Dickinson, and Ilya Mikheyev leading the way. Spencer Knight was also tremendous once again in net, stopping 22 of the 23 shots faced.

Chicago Hockey Now: It wasn’t the prettiest performance, but the Blackhawks got a much-needed win on home ice last night. Blashill’s group battled hard, and they finally the finished the job in a tight-knit contest.
More CHN: ICYMI, Oliver Moore scored his first two professional goals in the Rockford IceHogs’ 6-2 win over the Iowa Wild on Sunday. Another Blackhawks first-round pick also netted a hat trick in the OHL.
Speaking of prospects, 2025 third-round pick Nathan Behm potted his sixth goal of the season on Monday in just his seventh game. Behm now has 10 points on the season.
After becoming the first UMass freshman to record a hat trick in 10 years, 2025 first-round pick (No. 25 overall) Vaclav Nestrasil was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week! Nestrasil has four goals through his first three NCAA games.

The Athletic: New York Islanders fans have already fallen in love with 2025 top overall selection Matthew Schaefer. The 18-year-old defenseman tallied another assist on Monday and now has 3 points (1G, 2A) through his first three NHL games.
TSN: Jonathan Toews recorded his first point since April 2023 with a secondary assist on Nino Niederreiter’s goal in the Winnipeg Jets’ 5-2 win over the New York Islanders. Congrats, Tazer! So good to see him back on the ice and fully healthy.
Sportsnet: The Ottawa Senators dropped their home opener on Monday afternoon, falling 4-1 to the Nashville Predators. To make matters worse, star forward Brady Tkachuk suffered an injury after being cross-checked by Preds’ defenseman Roman Josi.
Montreal Hockey Now: The big news around the NHL on Monday was reigning Calder Trophy winner Lane Hutson signing an eight-year extension with the Montreal Canadiens. The 21-year-old defenseman’s new deal carries an $8.5 million cap hit and runs through the 2033-34 season.
Detroit Hockey Now: Lucas Raymond suffered an upper-body injury in the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Raymond wasn’t able to return to the game, and his status remains up in the air. That would be a brutal loss.
San Jose Hockey Now: FINALLY! San Jose Sharks star prospect Michael Misa is set to make his NHL debut against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday. Hit the link to see where Misa is expected to slot into the Sharks’ lineup.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Kris Letang could possibly miss some time with an injury, so Pittsburgh Penguins‘ head coach Dan Muse shuffled the team’s defensive pairings ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. Just in case.
