Jack’s Daily: Korchinski & Allan Injured; Brady Out Four Weeks; More Canadiens Extensions

Chicago Blackhawks, Kevin Korchinski

The Chicago Blackhawks practiced at Fifth Third Arena on Tuesday morning before boarding a plane to St. Louis for their Central Division matchup with the Blues. A positive injury update, forward Landon Slaggert was back on the ice and rotated in on the fourth line with Nick Foligno and Ryan Greene. Slaggert isn’t expected to play against the Blues on Wednesday but could return to the lineup versus Vancouver on Friday.

While the Blackhawks are beginning to get healthier, the same can’t be said for the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, as two young defensemen were placed in concussion protocol on Tuesday.

Around the league, the New York Rangers were shut out AGAIN on home ice, Brady Tkachuk will miss some time for the Ottawa Senators, and the Montreal Canadiens handed out more contract extensions.

All that & more in the Daily!

Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits

Chicago Hockey Now: ICYMI — the Blackhawks took down the Utah Mammoth 3-1 to earn their first win of the 2025-26 season on Monday night. It was also the first victory for Jeff Blashill as the team’s new head coach. Hit the link for the full recap, highlights, and takeaways from a fun night at the United Center.

More CHN: The Rockford IceHogs had their own fun night at the BMO Center on Sunday, as they handily defeated the Iowa Wild 6-2. Oliver Moore scored his first two professional goals and also added a secondary assist in the win.

Speaking of Rockford, the IceHogs placed defensemen Kevin Korchinski and Nolan Allan in concussion protocol on Tuesday. Hopefully, it’s not a long stint out of the lineup for either former first-round pick. Get well soon, boys.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic: Remember when the power went out at the United Center during the first period against Utah on Monday? Well, that was far from the first time that’s occurred at an NHL arena over the years. A fun & short story from Rob Rossi.

NHLdotcom: Brady Tkachuk exited Monday’s home opener against the Nashville Predators after taking a cross-check from Roman Josi. The Ottawa Senators provided an update on Tkachuk’s status, and the gritty forward is expected to miss at least four weeks.

Forever Blue Shirts: The New York Rangers are setting the wrong type of records early in the 2025-26 season. After a 2-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, the Rangers have now been shut out in their opening three games at Madison Square Garden this year. They’ve now surpassed the 2001-02 Florida Panthers for the longest season-opening streak without a goal on home ice. Yikes.

Montreal Hockey Now: Another pair of contract extensions was dished out by the Montreal Canadiens, but this time, it was for front-office members. President Jeff Gorton and GM Kent Hughes each received a new five-year deal on Tuesday.

San Jose Hockey Now: How did Michael Misa look in his highly anticipated NHL debut against Carolina? Sheng Peng wrote up all the key takeaways from the San Jose Sharks’ 5-1 loss on Tuesday.

Vegas Hockey Now: Golden Knights goaltender Adin Hill left Monday’s game against the Calgary Flames in the first period with an injury. Vegas is now down Hill, Noah Hanifin, and Brett Howden after only four games.
