A long road trip begins for the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, as they will head north of the border to battle the Jets up in Winnipeg.

Of course, this will be the first time that former Blackhawks captain, three-time Stanley Cup champion, and franchise icon Jonathan Toews faces off with his old team. Toews has tallied five points (2G, 3A) through ten games with Winnipeg in his first season back in the NHL since 2022-23. It’s still odd seeing “Tazer” wear another sweater, but it’s wonderful to see him healthy enough to return to the game he loves.

In other Blackhawks news, two prospects continued their strong starts to the season, while Season 4, Episode 1 of “Every Shift” dropped on Wednesday.

Around the league, John Tavares hit a milestone in the Maple Leafs’ loss, Nazem Kadri trade rumors are swirling, and Logan Cooley inked a new deal with Utah.

All that & more in the Daily!

Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits

Chicago Hockey Now: MUST WATCH! Connor Bedard recorded his first NHL hat trick in the Blackhawks’ 7-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. Here’s a look at all three of Bedard’s goals on the evening.

More CHN: Bedard led the way to victory, but he wasn’t the only player who made a key impact. Here are five other Blackhawks’ skaters who played a massive role in snapping the Sens’ winning streak.

The Blackhawks dropped Episode 1 of “Every Shift” on their YouTube channel, and it was a terrific watch. Season 4 begins with a recap of the summer moves made by the team, which included Jeff Blashill being hired as the new head coach and Frank Nazar signing a long-term contract extension. Then, it leads into the start of the 2025-26 season, where it’s clear that the Blackhawks are building towards something special.

In prospects news, 2025 third-round pick Nathan Behm and 2024 first-round pick Marek Vanacker both found the back of the net on Wednesday.

Behm scored his eighth goal of the season and added two primary assists for a three-point night. Behm is now eighth in the WHL with 21 points through 14 games.

Vanacker recorded his 12th tally of the year on a breakaway, and he’s now second in the OHL in goals. Vanacker is up to 19 points through 12 contests.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

NHLdotcom: The big news of the day, 21-year-old forward Logan Cooley signed a MAMMOTH extension with Utah. Cooley, who leads the Mammoth with eight goals and is second with 12 points this season, signed an eight-year deal that carries a $10 million cap hit. He’s now locked in with Utah through the 2033-34 campaign.

The Athletic: On the ice, it’s easy to root against Brad Marchand. Especially if you’re a fan of an NHL team that’s not the Florida Panthers. But off the ice, Marchand isn’t the same guy, and what he did this week proves that. Marchand has taken a leave of absence from the Panthers to support a friend whose 10-year-old daughter recently passed away after a battle with cancer.

TSN: The Calgary Flames are off to a disastrous start to the new season, which has led to the trade rumor mill picking up around center Nazem Kadri. However, these reports seem to be driven by the media, as Kadri reportedly loves Calgary, and the team hasn’t reached panic mode just yet.

Sportsnet: While most Toronto sports fans were focused on the Blue Jays’ win over the Dodgers in the World Series, hometown kid John Tavares reached a milestone in a loss for the Maple Leafs. Tavares potted his 500th NHL goal in the team’s 6-3 loss in Columbus on Wednesday. He joined Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos, and Evgeni Malkin as the only active NHLers in the 500 Club.

Montreal Hockey Now: Despite being tied for the league lead in goals, a recent post from the NHL on social media had Cole Caufield left off the projected roster for the United States’ Olympic Team. MHN writes that Caufield deserves more respect around the league, and he should be a member of the USA roster in Italy.

Detroit Hockey Now: It sounds like a crazy statement so early into the year, but the Detroit Red Wings are locks to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. At least, that’s what history suggests. The Wings are 7-3-0 through their first ten games, and each of the previous 14 times in franchise history that they’ve started with that record or better, they’ve qualified for the postseason.
