After losing 11 consecutive games to the Vancouver Canucks, the Chicago Blackhawks finally snapped the skid at Rogers Arena on Wednesday night. Oh, and Connor Bedard extended his point streak to six games to help beat his hometown team for the first time in his young career. More in the links for the takeaways and highlights from a CLUTCH win for the Blackhawks.

Also in Blackhawks news, Adam Gajan was honored for a strong start to his sophomore season, while Roman Kantserov added another two points over in Russia.

Around the league, Alex Ovechkin scored No. 900 in his historic NHL career, Macklin Celebrini led the Sharks over Seattle, and Nazem Kadri played in his 1,000th game.

All that & more in the Daily!

Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits

Chicago Hockey Now: Tyler Bertuzzi scored three times in the third, and Spencer Knight recorded a season-high 43 saves to lift the Chicago Blackhawks to a much-needed win over Lukas Reichel and the Vancouver Canucks. Wednesday’s win marked the first time Chicago has defeated Vancouver since Nov. 21, 2021, nearly four years ago.

More CHN: The Blackhawks have prospects thriving all around the globe early on this season. Former third-round pick Nick Lardis is one of them, and he was recently named AHL Rookie of the Month for October.

Speaking of prospects thriving, 2023 second-round pick Adam Gajan is off to a stellar start to his sophomore year of college hockey with the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Gajan was named NCHC Goaltender of the Month on Tuesday, as he picked up eight wins and had a 1.45 goals-against average, and .931 Sv% in October.

Over in Russia, another 2023 second-round selection continued his red-hot scoring streak. Roman Kantserov tallied another two assists in Metallurg Magnitogorsk’s 2-1 win on Tuesday, which now gives him 24 points (13G, 25A) through 23 games. Kantserov leads the KHL in goals and is fourth in points. He’s still only 21 years old.

NHL.com: Shoutout to Tracey Myers for always writing incredible stories. It’s Hockey Hall of Fame week for the writers with the NHL, and she covered Duncan Keith’s incredible career, and also got some comments from his former defensive partner, Brent Seabrook. Great read here, Blackhawks fans. The good old days.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

NHLdotcom: The moment of the night! Alexander Ovechkin became the first player in NHL history to record 900 career goals, and he did it in style during the Washington Capitals’ beatdown over the St. Louis Blues. Ovechkin, the greatest goal scorer of all time, has another record on his illustrious resume. Congrats, Ovi!

The Athletic: After Ovechkin scored his milestone goal, Blues’ netminder Jordan Binnington tried to swipe the puck and stash it in his gear. Eventually, Binnington gave the puck up, and he was also later pulled from the contest. It’s a disaster for St. Louis early this season.

Sportsnet: Nazem Kadri played in his 1,000th NHL game last night, and he fittingly scored a goal in the Calgary Flames’ 5-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Kadri and the Flames face off with the Blackhawks on Friday night.

TSN: Harrison Brunicke, Michael Misa, and Berkly Catton are a few young players who are closing in on their 10th NHL games of the season, which would effectively burn off the first year of their entry-level contracts. Decisions must be made soon.

San Jose Hockey Now: With a three-point performance on Wednesday, Macklin Celebrini is now tied for the NHL lead with 21 points on the season. Celebrini was excellent once again in the San Jose Sharks‘ 6-1 win over the Seattle Kraken.

Vegas Hockey Now: Akira Schmidt has been leaned on heavily by the Vegas Golden Knights with Adin Hill on the shelf due to an injury. Schmidt shut out the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, moving his record to 6-1-0 on the season.

Florida Hockey Now: Believe it or not, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers are currently in last place in the Eastern Conference. That’s good news for the Blackhawks, as they hold Florida’s 2026 first-round selection, stemming from the Seth Jones trade. George Richards from FHN writes that there is a big reason why the Panthers are at the bottom of the standings.
