Jack’s Daily: Blackhawks Bounce Back; Rinzel & Slaggert Impact IceHogs Win
After suffering their worst loss of the season last time out to the Anaheim Ducks, the Chicago Blackhawks responded with one of their best team performances in a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers on Wednesday. Spencer Knight stopped all 21 shots faced to shut out Mike Sullivan’s Rangers, which certainly can’t hurt his case for making Team USA’s Olympic roster. After all, Sullivan is the head coach for the Red, White, & Blue in Milan this coming February.
Also in Blackhawks news, Sam Rinzel and Landon Slaggert both helped the Rockford IceHogs’ comeback from a 2-0 deficit and defeat the Iowa Wild 4-3.
Around the league, Quinn Hughes isn’t the only member of the Canucks involved in trade chatter, Patrick Kane tallied two points — but no goals — in the Red Wings win over Calgary, and the Panthers scored the game-winner in the final minute over Utah.

Chicago Hockey Now: After giving up seven goals and allowing 53 shots on Sunday, the Blackhawks had a much-improved defensive showing in a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers. Chicago held New York to only 21 shots, including just four in the third period, to help ease Spencer Knight to his second shutout of the season.
More CHN: Speaking of Knight, the 24-year-old’s second shutout perhaps couldn’t have occurred on a better occasion. The Blackhawks No. 1 netminder blanked the Rangers in front of head coach Mike Sullivan, whose also the bench boss for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics. More CHN: ICYMI, the Blackhawks made the wise decision to assign youngsters Sam Rinzel and Landon Slaggert to the AHL earlier this week.
Both were in the lineup for the IceHogs on Wednesday and made in impact in the 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Iowa Wild. Rinzel tallied two assists, while Slaggert scored the team’s opening goal. Laurent Brossoit also recorded his first win in net as a member of the Blackhawks organization.

Sportsnet: The latest rumblings regarding the ice sheet and arena for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy are undoubtedly concerning. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly both spoke on the matter in Winnipeg on Wednesday. The league currently has ice and facility experts in Milan, but next month’s testing event will be crucial in determining whether the tournament involves NHL players or not.
Canucks Army: The trade rumors surrounding star defenseman Quinn Hughes have started to seep into the Vancouver Canucks’ locker room. Head coach Adam Foote admitted to the media that the players are hearing all the trade chatter involving their captain.
The Athletic: Speaking of the Canucks, Hughes isn’t the only member of the squad garnering trade interest. According to league sources, the Minnesota Wild offerered Vancouver a good, young prospect, which is what the Canucks were speaking in return. However, because of all the interest in Sherwood, GM Patrick Allvin reportedly has upped the price.
NHL.com: The St. Louis Blues signed forward Robby Fabbri to a one-year, two-way contract on Wednesday. Fabbri, a former first-round pick by the Blues in 2014, spent the first four years of his NHL career in St. Louis, tallying 73 points in 164 games with the club. He’s played in just three AHL games so far this season with the Charlotte Checkers, recording one goal and one assist for two points.
Florida Hockey Now: Anton Frondell scored a mammoth goal for the Florida Panthers in the final minute of the game to help the club beat Utah 4-3 on Wednesday. The Panthers are now just three points back of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Detroit Hockey Now: Two former Blackhawks in Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat led the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames. DeBrincat racked up three points with one goal and two assists, while Kane had two helpers. However, Kane failed to find the back of the net and is still stuck on 497 career goals. Kane, DeBrincat, and the Red Wings come to Chicago for an Original Six matchup on Saturday. Imagine if Kane scored his 500th at the United Center?!
