He took two or three extra laps around the ice, as the Blackhawks’ faithful simply would not stop cheering. It was the loudest the building has been all season. Well done, Chicago.

Around the league, Sergei Bobrovsky and Alex Nedeljkovic got into a goalie fight, Kiefer Sherwood was on the move from Vancouver, and potential landing spots for Artemi Panarin.

Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits
Chicago Hockey Now: Jonathan Toews and the Winnipeg Jets were locked in early, but Spencer Knight was on point to spoil any hopes of a homecoming win for the franchise icon. Knight stopped all 32 shots faced to record his third shutout of the 2025-26 season. The Blackhawks’ No. 1 netminder was credited with 3.86 goals saved above expected.
More CHN: Here’s the link to watch Toews’ video tribute that was shown on the Jumbotron during the first TV timeout. Also included was the seemingly endless ovation that Toews received from the ever-supportive Blackhawks fans. What a moment for the future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer!
More CHN: Last thing on Toews until these two teams meet again in early March. Ahead of Monday’s matchup with the Blackhawks, the 37-year-old forward spoke about his 16 seasons in Chicago and all the emotions from returning to the place where it all began. Toews also joked about giving Patrick Kane a call for some pre-game advice.
In attendance on Monday at the United Center were two of Chicago’s biggest sports stars — Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong. Williams & PCA were sitting together on the glass to watch Toews’ first trip back home. They both received a massive ovation of their own.
After the Blackhawks won, Williams and Crow-Armstrong were welcomed into the locker room. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, and this iconic photo was snapped in the process. Before QB1 left, he asked Connor Bedard to sign the 98 sweater that he wore to the game.
NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now
The Athletic: After signing with the New York Rangers in the summer of 2019, Artemi Panarin’s time with the Original Six franchise is coming to a close. Here are 10 potential landing spots for the 34-year-old winger. Spoiler alert: the Blackhawks are not one of them.
NHL.com: After weeks and weeks of rumors, the Vancouver Canucks finally found a willing dance partner for Kiefer Sherwood. The San Jose Sharks acquired the 30-year-old forward in exchange for two second-round picks and defenseman Cole Clayton. Sherwood has tallied 23 points (17G, 6A) in 44 games this season.
San Jose Hockey Now: GOALIE FIGHT! For the first time in nearly six years, two NHL netminders got into a scrap on Monday night. Alex Nedeljkovic was involved in a skirmish in the corner, and Sergei Bobrovsky came bolting down from the other end of the ice. Both goaltenders were throwing with ill intent. It’s the first goalie fight since Mike Smith and Cam Talbot duked it out in the Battle of Alberta in February 2020.
Florida Hockey Now: While the two-time defending champions lost 4-1 to the Sharks, they received a massive win before puck drop. Matthew Tkachuk suited up for the first time this season, as he missed the first 47 games after having surgery to repair a sports hernia and a torn adductor. Tkachuk finished with three shots on goal and was minus-one in 20:58 of ice time.
New Jersey Hockey Now: From bad to worse for the New Jersey Devils. Defenseman Luke Hughes, who’s been under heavy scrutiny this season, suffered a dislocated shoulder in a 2-1 overtime win against the Calgary Flames on Monday. Hughes has five goals and 26 points in 48 games this year after signing a long-term extension near the end of training camp.
Colorado Hockey Now: A scary incident occurred involving Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin on his way to Monday’s game. Nichushkin was in a car accident while en route to Ball Arena, and he was scratched from the lineup late with an upper-body injury. Head coach Jared Bednar mentioned that the 30-year-old appears to be alright and will be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
