All that & more in the Daily!

Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits

Chicago Hockey Now: Teuvo Teravainen is no stranger to International competition, but he’s about to represent his native country of Finland on the Olympic stage for the first time in his career. During Finland’s recent practices, Teravainen has been skating on the second line, and he’s also getting a look on the second power-play unit. For the Finns to have success in Milan, Teravainen must perform better than he has for Chicago so far this season.

More CHN: Despite the Seth Jones-Spencer Knight trade between the Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers occurring nearly one full year ago, a new condition in the deal was just unveiled late last week. Somehow, it was kept in the dark that the 2026 first-round pick Chicago received in the deal is actually top-ten protected. What gives?

In AHL news, the first night of the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic begins on Tuesday at the BMO Center in Rockford, Illinois. The Skills Competition kicks off the two-day event, which includes accuracy shooting, breakaway relay, fastest skater, hardest shot, pass and score, puck control relay, rapid fire, and top goaltender.

As a reminder, Nick Lardis, Kevin Korchinski, and Brett Seney are the three IceHogs representing the hometown team.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic: Which country comes away with the Gold Medal? Who’s the tournament MVP? What players are flying under the radar? Here are several predictions from The Athletic ahead of the 2026 Olympic hockey tournament.

Forever Blueshirts: The Artemi Panarin trade is behind the New York Rangers, but there’s no reason for GM Chris Drury’s retool to stop there. Panarin’s longtime linemate on Broadway, Vincent Trocheck, could be the next to go, after trades are allowed again Feb. 23.

Colorado Hockey Now: The most pressing need for the Colorado Avalanche ahead of the trade deadline is a third-line center. Aarif Dean from CHN breaks down why the Avs should make a run for Toronto Maple Leafs forward Scott Laughton.

Sportsnet: Canada and the United States are taking very different approaches to how they’ll be living during their time over in Italy. While the Americans are enjoying time together in the Olympic dorms, the Canadians have already departed in favor of a five-star hotel.

Toronto Hockey Now: One of the biggest needs for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season has been, and will continue to be, a big-shot, power-play quarterback for the blueline. According to NHL insider Nick Kypreos, the Leafs might have found their man, and he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent in Tampa Bay this summer.

More Athletic: Could the Minnesota Wild trade young goaltender Jesper Wallstedt for more forward help? GM Bill Guerin isn’t afraid to make a splash, and there are still several big-name forwards that could be pryed away for the proper price.
