Connor Murphy, who was the longest-tenured member of the Chicago Blackhawks and ranks 33rd in franchise history in games played, has found a new home. At least, for the remainder of the 2025-26 regular season.

On an expiring contract, Murphy was widely expected to get traded by the Blackhawks ahead of Friday’s trade deadline, and GM Kyle Davidson finally pulled the trigger on Monday afternoon. More in the links for the details on the deal between the Blackhawks and the Edmonton Oilers.

Speaking of Davidson, he was listed as a scout for Monday night’s matchup in Los Angeles between the Kings and Colorado Avalanche. Davidson watched DJ Smith make his interim debut behind the Kings’ bench. Check out the links for why GMKD was on the West Coast.

Around the league, Nathan MacKinnon had another multi-point effort to spoil Smith’s debut, news on all the New Jersey Devils’ trade chips, and could the Panthers move on from Sergei Bobrovsky?

All that & more in the Daily!

Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Trade Rumors

Chicago Hockey Now: After spending the last nine seasons in Chicago, Connor Murphy’s time with the Blackhawks has come to an end. Murphy was traded to the Edmonton Oilers on Monday in exchange for a 2028 second-round pick. The Blackhawks retained half of Murphy’s $4.4 million cap hit to maximize the return from Edmonton. It was a sound piece of business for both sides.

More CHN: In Murphy’s final game with the team, the Blackhawks earned one of their best wins of the season, defeating the Utah Mammoth 4-0 for their first win out of the Olympic break. Arvid Soderblom also finally recorded his first NHL shutout in his 94th career start.

More CHN: The 2026 NHL trade deadline is now only three days away. ICYMI, here is Chicago Hockey Now’s Blackhawks trade deadline preview, predicting which of their six pending unrestricted free agents get dealt before Mar. 6.

Just a few hours after making a trade with Edmonton, Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson scouted the Colorado Avalanche-Los Angeles Kings game on Monday night. Both teams could have an interest in one of Chicago’s five remaining trade chips. Jason Dickinson makes sense for the third-line center role in Colorado. Ilya Mikheyev also fits the Kings’ defensive style of play. We’ll see if anything comes from this before Friday.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic: Will the St. Louis Blues’ Robert Thomas be headed to the Colorado Avalanche or the Utah Mammoth? Will Vincent Trocheck join the Minnesota Wild? Here’s one bold prediction for all 32 NHL teams before the trade deadline.

NHL.com: Nathan MacKinnon nearly became the second player in the NHL to reach 100 points this season, as he scored his 41st goal and added an assist in Colorado’s 4-2 win over Los Angeles. MacKinnon currently sits at 99 points, just four back of Connor McDavid for the league lead. Devon Toews potted the game-winner with 4:55 remaining.

Colorado Hockey Now: The Colorado Avalanche are searching for more support down the middle, hence why Jason Dickinson could be a good fit. But the Avs also reportedly have interest in reacquiring Nazem Kadri from the Calgary Flames. Aarif Dean from CHN breaks down the latest rumors regarding Kadri.

Forever Blueshirts: The New York Rangers lost in heartbreaking fashion on Monday, as they clawed back from a 4-0 deficit in the third period, only to fall 5-4 in overtime. But on the bright side, rookie Gabe Perreault had a stellar performance, tallying three points in the loss.

Bring Me The News: The Minnesota Wild made a couple of transactions on Monday. First, they claimed veteran Robby Fabbri off waivers from the St. Louis Blues. Then, Marcus Foligno, the little brother of the Blackhawks’ captain, was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. Foligno will miss at least the next two games.

Sportsnaut: The Florida Panthers are multiple games back of a Stanley Cup Playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with just a quarter of the season remaining. The Panthers could end up selling off a few pieces of their roster before the deadline, and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky’s future is in jeopardy.

New Jersey Hockey Now: James Nichols from NJHN played New Jersey Devils trade matchmaker, predicting the six players who could be on the move ahead of Friday.
