Must See: The Patrick Kane Encore Skate After His Tribute Video

Published

CHICAGO – The tribute was one thing. But the encore cheers for Patrick Kane to skate a hat trick of loops for the adoring Blackhawks fans was something else.

Kane took multiple trips to an absolutely raucous capacity crowd in his first game back to the United Center since being traded to the New York Rangers last season.

On Chris Chelios‘ night, it was Patrick Kane getting the second loudest cheers of the past few hours.

All Smiles from Patrick Kane

It couldn’t have meant anymore than it already did, but Kane’s smile said it all when they showed him on the big board. With every cheer that just grew louder, the former Blackhawks star who scored the Stanley Cup game winner in 2010, and one big goal after another in his career looked like the moment ranked up there with so many others from his storied career.

The difference in reception speaks to the differing perceptions, too. Kane winning three Stanley Cups certainly dulled some of the pain of seeing him traded. But like Chelios here he was, wearing the Winged Wheel, the red and white bullseye of hatred in the Windy City.

But it didn’t matter. The circumstances of him being in Detroit are not only different, but so too were what he carved out in Chicago.

Chelios himself referred to him as taking the crown of being the best American born player of all time. There’s no doubt that the response of the crowd underscored what that American born player meant to the fanbase.

The Blackhawks honored their former captain and local boy. But they also snuck another tribute in that will give fans the memory of a lifetime.
