Blackhawks Daily: An Avalanche of Success to Follow?

The Colorado Avalanche might hold the key to how the Blackhawks should build and other Hawks news you may have missed.

The Chicago Blackhawks play in the same division as the Colorado Avalanche who are one of the best teams in the NHL once again. Over the weekend, they proved it once again.

After being down to the red-hot Nashville Predators on Saturday, they came back to win 7-4. Nathan MacKinnon had his home point streak come to an end but he got right back on the horse and had four (2-2–4).

This is a team that the Blackhawks should try to mimic. They had some lottery luck with Nathan MacKinnon and then did a brilliant job building around him once he became a star. It was a story CHN looked at when it broke down build of the 2021-22 Colorado Avalanche.

They also showed the league how to be patient with a superstar as the Hawks will need to be with Connor Bedard. MacKinnon had his ups and downs early on and Bedard will too. The wait will be worth it.

When Colorado was ready to start winning, they did what they needed to do to supplement the young core that they built and it led to a Stanley Cup. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if they got another before it’s all said and done. Colorado is now only one of three Western Conference teams (Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks) to clinch a playoff berth already.

Their lessons are certainly ones to learn from.

Blackhawks In Case You Missed It

  • Frank Nazar made a brilliant play to give Michigan a no-doubt trip to the Frozen Four. This team is going to be a hard out and Nazar is a big part of it.
  • The Frozen Four will have a lot of Blackhawks flavor since Nazar, Ryan Greene, and Aidan Thompson will all be there
  • The New Jersey Devils can show the Chicago Blackhawks exactly how to handle things if the rebuild has some ups and downs over the years.
  • Lukas Reichel and other role players came up big for the Chicago Blackhawks in their big win over the Philadelphia Flyers over the weekend

Hockey Now Playoff Focus

  • Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins are built for desperate hockey which might serve them well heading into the playoffs.
  • Nashville Hockey Now: The Nashville Predators‘ impressive point streak ended but Roman Josi is still helping his team become that squad that nobody wants to face in the postseason.
  • Vegas Hockey Now: The Vegas Golden Knights are fighting hard for a playoff spot this year. They took big points from the Minnesota Wild by scoring the OTGWG into an empty net.
  • Florida Hockey Now: The Florida Panthers are doing big things this season. Aleksander Barkov helped them to their most recent win as they are pushing to win the Atlantic Division.
